Smackdown August 16th 2016

Smackdown

The final Smackdown Live before Summerslam! Let's get in to boys and girls.

Backstage with Shane, Daniel, and Randy Orton

Randy Orton officially signs the contract to face Brock Lesnar at Summerslam, and as Orton, Shane, and Daniel discuss the match, Heath Slater interrupts with a gift basket. He says after watching Smackdown he saw that they wanted to give him a contract. After Daniel and Shane said he blew his shot, Randy said he might have another idea...

Miz TV with Dean Ambrose and Dolph Ziggler

After Dean interrupts Miz for the cajillionth time, Dolph gives him a taste of his own medicine and interrupts Dean. Dean goes on to tell Dolph that at Summerslam he will prove that Dolph doesn't want it bad enough and he's never wanted it bad enough. Dolph fires back by saying Dean is going to exhaust every weapon in his arsenal and it's still not going to be enough. He goes on before Superkicking Dean Ambrose out of nowhere in the face. He then stands over Dean and simply says "This Sunday you're gonna' realize that I am that...damn...good." This sets Dolph as a wild card and I'd be lying if I said Dolph isn't the underdog going in to this, which is why I want him to win even more.

The Hype Bros, The Usos, and American Alpha defeated Breezango, The Vaudevillains, and The Ascension

This was really hectic with American Alpha hitting Red Amplitude on Aiden English for the win, but it lacked star power except for American Alpha in my opinion. And I stand by that opinion for the entire Smackdown tag team division. There's American Alpha and other than that there aren't really any tag teams that wouldn't be considered jobbers or irrelevant.

Naomi vs Eva Marie

Naomi came out with a new entrance and ring gear and holy damn it was a lot of glow and I nearly had a seizure but it's all good. Anyways it was a cringy entrance but at least she made an entrance, as this time when Eva Maries music an announcer came on it said she would be delayed by traffic and would not compete. This is really good though it's getting her some good heat and she's playing the "dumb redhead" role really well.

Curt Hawkins Coming Soon

There was an ad for Curt Hawkins coming soon and I really hope he doesn't pull a Shelton Benjamin and get injured because I'm really looking forward to Curt Hawkins I personally didn't watch when he was around but from the ad he seems like a huge legend.

Heath Slater defeated Randy Orton by Disqualification

Randy Orton's idea at the start of the show was if Heath beat him he would get his contract, so they were about to face off. Heath actually won after the ref disqualified Randy Orton for not listening when he told him to stop attacking Heath in the corner, however Randy wasn't done after the bell rang. Intending to send a message, Orton delivered two suplexes to Heath Slater before ending with an RKO and like you gotta feel for Heath. He's Randy and Brock's punching bags now! Jeez Heath is a contract really worth all this? Yes it is.

Heath Slater Backstage

Backstage Heath Slater was with the doctors and clearly delirious. Since he won though Shane gave him a contract to sign. However after a delirious Heath Slater mistook Shane for Stephanie he quickly slipped the contract away, keeping Heath Slater as a free agent. Darn Heath, so close.

Dean Ambrose defeated Erick Rowan

The match was meh, ending of course with Dean hitting Dirty Deeds but what was more interesting was what happened after the match. Bray Wyatt was sitting in his rocking chair facing away from the ring and staring at Erick Rowan's mask. He then stood up and walked away, leaving the mask behind on the chair. Does this mean the end of the Wyatt Family? Will Erick Rowan become a singles competitor? TOO MUCH MYSTERY

Becky Lynch and Carmella defeated Natalya and Alexa Bliss

There was a point when both Becky Lynch and Natalya were down in the ring when who decided to show up? Eva freaking Marie. However not far behind Eva was Naomi, and she began to chase Eva down. The chase went through the ring where Natalya grabbed Naomi's hair and pulled her down, but this allowed Becky to apply the Disarmer on Natalya forcing her to tap. This also lead to a six woman tag match at Summerslam; Becky, Naomi and Carmella vs Natalya, Alexa and Eva. Shouldn't be too bad but I was hoping for a Smackdown Womens Title match or something. Guess we'll have to wait for Backlash.

Baron Corbin and Kalisto

For the second week straight Baron Corbin was attacking Kalisto backstage and unfortunately I can sense when a shit kickoff show match is coming and...*sniff sniff*...yeah this is definitely going to be one.

John Cena defeated Alberto Del Rio

John Cena, after reversing the Cross Armbreaker hit Del Rio with the Attitude Adjustment to pick up the clean victory, but AJ Styles was on commentary and after the match and hit Cena with a Phenomenal Forearm during Cena's celebration! He grabbed a microphone and told Cena that after he beats him at Summerslam he'll be the face that runs the place and "I already told you boy. Your time is up...my time is now" He then looks to leave but goes back and tries to perform Styles Clash on Cena, only for Cena to pick him up and hit him with the Attitude Adjustment, then put him through the announce table with another. Hopefully we'll have the opposite outcome at Summerslam.

Star Of The Night: Curt Hawkins

I don't know really anything about this guy but he seems like a huge legend and I'm glad he's coming back to the WWE.

That's all for now, tune back in soon for my review of NXT and
Until next time,
Devon Wizard
